Consider Great Grains - far & away the best cereal out there. Peter said he has a lively & ongoing debate going with some guys in Kabul over the hands-down best cereal. Here are their votes:
Peter: Special K Guy 1: Total Guy 2: Raisin Bran Crunch (which should so not even be in the running. RBC cannot be a contender. This is an interesting side-cereal, a "mid-afternoon snack" cereal at best.)
I _love_ Raisin Bran Crunch, though not every supermarket sells it, and it is hardly ever on sale. Also delicious is the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, which we found on sale last week. Yum.
I also love Raisin Bran Crunch, please don't misunderstand, cereal posters. I love it as a snack, as a supplementary second bowl of cereal on those mornings when I am not done skimming the NYT after eating one bowl of cereal. But it cannot compete, I still insist, with foundational cereals such as Cheerios, Corn Flakes, Total, Special K even, to be the BEST cereal ever. My love for Raisin Nut Bran, for example, runs deep; I have loved it for a long time, and it is always in my cabinet. I would not insist, however, that it be considered on a par with these other pillars of the morning flake. My vote for best of all time may surprise: Great Grains with Raisins, Dates, & Pecans. A dark horse, yes. But try it and you will find its charms particularly seductive.
I am a voracious newspaper reader and frequently find myself inserting "You know, I just read an article about (insert topic)" into conversations. I am currently distressed by the downsized state of the newspaper industry and spend a good amount of time reading commentaries about its future. I think I am resigned to being curmudgeonly about this topic and just this side of annoying.
